I don’t know if you’ve noticed yet, but I love comediennes. They are my she-heroes and I love them. Enter: Jenny Slate. I first saw her as Mona-Lisa, the wacky, spoiled sister of Jean-Ralfio on Parks and Recreation. She also cameoed as Hannah’s frenemy in an episode of GIRLS. But what really sealed the deal for me was her Comedy Bang Bang podcast with Nick Kroll, where she appeared as Pretty Liz. She’s also starred on Kroll Show and House of Lies. Her characters are out-there and hilarious and she nails every one of them.
I stumbled upon the trailer for Obvious Child late the other night, and I was instantly interested. Jenny plays Donna, a brilliant stand-up comedienne on-stage, and struggling human being off-stage. Her character seems relatable and endearing and, in contrast to her previous characters, real. I can’t wait to see her in this role, which I believe will put her star on the rise.
I’m curious, do you have a favorite comedienne? Do you think you’ll see Obvious Child this weekend?
