Homemade candles are a great DIY because you can customize them to your liking and give them as gifts for several occasions. I recently came across these dishes, and wanted to put them to good use, so I decided to try my hand at making my own candles.
one – small foil container for melting wax
two – vybar (increases wax opacity and prevents bubbles)
three – WAX
four – wicks
five – cute containers (that can handle the heat)
*Not seen, but just as important: potholders
Place the wax shavings in the foil container. Put the foil container in a pan on the stove and heat until the wax melted. (I kept the burner just warm enough to liquify the wax.)
*Never leave the burner unattended and play it safe by using potholders to handle everything.
Once the wax is melted, add the vybar. Only a small amount is needed, about 1% of the amount of wax you’re melting. If you want to add a scent to your candle, this is the time to do it.
Using potholders, pour the wax in to the dish and immediately place the wick in the center. DO NOT TOUCH THE DISH once the wax is poured. It will be hot and the liquid wax can spill easily. Set aside for several hours to cool and harden.
Trim the wick and light her up! You’ve got yourself a homemade candle!
