/ apple news – After updating my phone, I’ll admit I was skeptical about the news app. I quickly selected my favorite publications in setup and I am now addicted to latest from Epicurious, Apartment Therapy, Vanity Fair and even the serious stuff from USA Today and CNBC. It’s easy to pass the time waiting in line when the prospect of tweeting a great article is as simple as a push of a button.
/ the perfect leather jacket – I’ve been toying with the idea of a leather jacket. I bought this (faux) one a few weeks ago and after evaluating the trends, I’m really lusting after a more authentic version. I’m trying to justify the investment by choosing a classic silhouette that I can wear for years and years. This is my favorite so far.
/ andrew mcmahon in the wilderness – Do you remember falling in love with Something Corporate? I recently reminisced about concerts past with my hair stylist and she told me about lead singer Andrew McMahon’s latest project. It’s still that fantastic piano and voice but with a modern twist. I’ve been listening to it on repeat ever since. Listen to: Rainy Girl, Maps for the Getaway
/ L.A. everything – Truth be told, I thought I was more of a New York kind of person. But in the past few years I’ve realized I’m more accustomed to warm weather. That, coupled with the insane art scene, modern vibe, historic architecture, and proximity to the coast, and I’m all like, “New York, who?” Some of my favorite movies show off L.A. in the best way, and a lot of designers and artists I follow live out there, too.
/ a messy chop – I recently changed up my style and went short. It’s been an adjustment (I miss you dry-shampoo-top-knot-Wednesdays), but I’m digging the change and kind of feel like a grown up because of it. I’ve always loved messy hair so my challenge has been in finding balance between cute/messy and “maybe I’m hungover”.
/ minimal movie posters – I love a good rom-com, thriller, and occasionally an action flick. But, have you ever noticed that today’s movie posters are pretty terrible? I don’t know why either! The stars’ faces are clearly Photoshopped to oblivion, oddly placed, and images and type are spread from one border to another. I’ve been loving the simplistic and often clever designs that artists have been sharing for great movies. It’s cool how one image or the right typeface can clearly communicate the tone of the movie. Proof that less is definitely more.
/ mexican tortilla casserole – I’ve been trying to eat less meat and dairy* which has not been too difficult because I don’t cook. But! I came across this recipe and had every single ingredient it called for so I took to it to mean I should absolutely try it out. And much to my surprise, it was really quick and easy.. and delicious! I halved the recipe and still had left overs for later in the week.
/ lee radziwill tweets – I don’t know about you, but I love a good tweet thread. Witty, clever, biting and sarcastic… it’s all good on Twitter. Enter: Lee Radziwill. Sister of the late First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, interior designer, and PR executive, she makes no apologies for her sharp quips and blatant disdain for the Kardashians. Some of my favorites include… On Halloween: Remember ladies, Agent Provocateur does not a Halloween costume make. On dinner parties: You’re pairing Merlot with chicken?
#StressIn5Words On work: Undersell and over-deliver. Just because: Every time Claire Danes smiles, a unicorn gets its wings.
/ fall shoes – Am I an oxford person, or a bootie person? At the nine-to-five I rock simple loafers, but I think I want to branch out a bit. The suede boots above are darling and I could see them going with most outfits. But I’m curious to see if I can pull off the oxfords, which are really having a moment. This year’s oxfords are last year’s booties. Which means they are of course, sold out everywhere.
/ reading my favorite screenplays – I didn’t know this until recently, but you can download screenplays for free from the internet. I read the screen play for Eternal Sunshine (all time top five fave), Her (visually stunning, Jonze does no wrong), and Stranger Than Fiction (another longtime fave). I find it interesting how I can visualize these beautifully complex movies through such simple descriptions and dialog. You can find your favorite screenplays too, here and here.
